This Alternate Reality Game (ARG) was designed to promote all the activities available at Fair Park, a public park full of museums and performance spaces.
The game consisted of a series of online clues. Several of these challenges could only be solved by visiting the park or FairPark.org. For example, players had to find a specific work of art to unlock this puzzle.

To solve the following challenge, players had to identify a book by it’s ISBN, then find a single word within the text.

The game was launched with mysterious business cards handed out at football and hockey games. Thousands of nickels were also left (sticker side down) in malls, parking lots and public transit stations.

A MySpace page created as part of the game evolved into a community of people sharing hints and bragging about their progress.

Players spent an average of seven hours engaged with the game and traffic to FairPark.org increased more than ten-fold.

Other Projects

Below you’ll find some things that aren’t really advertising.
But my work outside of the office still seeks to explore the intersection of words, art and commerce.

AskACopywriter.com

I believe advertising can solve all the world’s problems.
Well, at least yours anyway.
That’s why I offer an advice column and ad blog in one convenient location at AskACopywriter.com.

AllMyLifeForSale.net

I once sold everything I owned on eBay.
For the All My Life For Sale project, I created an online catalogue of all my possessions and put each one up for auction. The goal of the experiment was to examine how identity is shaped by the objects and brands we buy.

Pieces of my life were scattered from North Carolina to South Korea. The site also attracted media attention from as far as Israel.
You can browse through my life and read updates from people that bought a part of me here.

Post No Bills

The Post No Bills project entails writing suggestions on currency with my url stamped on the back of each bill.

One of the pieces in this series was published in issue #44 of Adbusters magazine.

Yes, I realize I’m defacing currency and calling it art. But according to United States Code/Title 18/Part I/Chapter 17/Section 333, as long as I don’t have any intent to render the bills unfit to be reissued, I should be within the bounds of the law.
